The state of Massachusetts is known for hosting among the best schools in the world. But these schools are also known to be among the hardest schools to get into. For students in the area who want to avail of a higher education, there are several smaller schools that are easier to get into, and they can still provide quality education. Among the best institutes in the state includes Quincy College.
Quincy College, also known as QC, is a public junior college located in Quincy, Massachusetts. The college offers 32 associate degree programs and 11 certificate programs in different kinds of disciplines, including those in Professional Programs, Liberal Arts, Natural & Health Sciences and Nursing. The college draws a diversity of students from the greater Boston area as well as from all over the world, including over 100 countries around the world. The main campus and bookstore is in the neighborhood of Quincy Center, with another satellite campus in Plymouth, MA.
The school's first classes were offered at the Coddington Elementary School in 1956 as College Courses. In 1958, Charles W. Akers became its first full-time director and transformed it into a junior college. He named it Quincy Junior College when it was first given power to grant associate's degrees in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. In 1991, the school founded the Plymouth campus located thirty minutes south of the Quincy campus, in downtown Plymouth, MA. Quincy College operates under the City of Quincy. The college is unusual in this aspect because it is the only one of Massachusetts' 16 community colleges to be run by a city. Most colleges are run by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. QC is also one of only two colleges in the United States organized this way.
The college confers Associate degrees and certificates of completion in a wide variety of studies. Quincy College also operates an articulation agreement with Cambridge College for four-year baccalaureate degrees and with Excelsior College for online learning. This means that students who finish their 2-year courses from QC can continue and avail for their 4-year degree with either Cambridge or Exelsior. The school is an open enrollment institution, which means that the school accepts all students with a high school diploma or an equivalent to matriculate. This acceptance is regardless of any academic abilities, without selectivity.
